The DMC-FZ18 features a 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens with 18x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 28-504mm) in a compact body. The 18x optical zoom ratio can be extended up to 28.7x (35mm equivalent: 803.6mm) at resolutions of 3-megapixel or less. The bright, large-diameter lens with f/2.8 to 4.2 apertures has minimal distortion and captures images with corner-to-corner clarity. In iA mode, the four detection functions - MEGA O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector - and Quick AF work simultaneously. This lets you take beautiful pictures by simply pressing the shutter button. It provides high image quality, high speed response, and low energy consumption. The Venus Engine III is able to achieve a longer battery life of approx.
The joystick enables flexible and easy adjustment of the exposure, aperture and shutter speed. The Advanced Scene Mode lets the user control shooting results to get exactly the results the user wants. The DMC-FZ18's high-resolution 2.5" LCD incorporates the Intelligent LCD function. Under bright sunlight, this function increases the backlight brightness. In dark places, it makes the subject brighter and easier to see.
